Narrative - 15

Narrative has never been the primary attraction of the Forza Horizon series, yet previous entries managed to create a strong sense of place through their setting and presentation. In that regard, Forza Horizon 6 feels like a step down from its predecessor. While the festival atmosphere remains intact and the game continues to frame the player as a rising star within the Horizon ecosystem, the sense of discovery and identity that characterized Mexico in Forza Horizon 5 feels less pronounced here. Events, characters, and progression serve their purpose as connective tissue between races and activities, but they rarely leave a lasting impression. The result is a narrative framework that remains functional and enjoyable without reaching the heights of previous entries. For a racing game, this is far from a major flaw, though it does make the world feel slightly less memorable than it otherwise could have been.

Visuals & Music - 18

Playground Games once again demonstrates why the Forza Horizon franchise remains one of the most technically impressive racing series on the market. Visual improvements follow the same evolutionary path seen throughout the franchise. Rather than delivering a dramatic leap, Forza Horizon 6 refines an already exceptional formula. Vehicle models remain incredibly detailed, environmental variety is impressive, and weather effects contribute significantly to immersion. The world feels alive and vibrant, particularly during high-speed races where lighting, reflections, and environmental detail combine to create a remarkable sense of motion.

The soundtrack proved to be a pleasant surprise. While musical taste is always subjective, I found the selection more enjoyable than the previous entry. Radio stations offer enough variety to complement the diverse activities available throughout the game, and several tracks have already cemented themselves as memorable additions to the series. Sound design, however, is where the game truly excels. Engine notes, tire squeals, collisions, and environmental effects are among the best in the genre. Whether playing through speakers, headphones, or a dedicated racing setup, the audio experience consistently reinforces the sensation of driving powerful machines at extreme speeds.

Mechanics - 17

Forza Horizon continues to do what it has always done best. It delivers an accessible arcade racing experience with a remarkably high skill ceiling. New players can jump in almost immediately and begin enjoying races, while experienced drivers still have ample room to refine techniques, optimize builds, and master individual vehicles.

Driving remains responsive and satisfying across a wide variety of vehicle types. Racing wheel support and hardware compatibility are excellent, with extensive customization options allowing players to tailor the experience to their preferences. Car tuning and customization systems have expanded further, providing more opportunities to fine-tune performance and create specialized builds for different race categories and driving styles.

What makes the series stand out is its ability to balance accessibility with depth. The fundamentals are easy to grasp, yet mastery requires significant knowledge of vehicle classes, tuning configurations, race conditions, and track characteristics. This balance has always been one of the franchise's greatest strengths, and Forza Horizon 6 continues that tradition successfully.

Procedural Rhetoric - 19

Of course this would not be a PROC3SS review without examining the game's procedural rhetoric. Interestingly, Forza Horizon 6 demonstrates how a game can communicate values through freedom rather than restriction. Unlike many racing games that gate content behind rigid progression structures, Forza Horizon consistently places player agency at the center of the experience.

The primary constraint comes in the form of qualifier races and progression events that unlock additional activities across the map. These function as a light onboarding process rather than a restrictive progression system. Once unlocked, players are given tremendous freedom in how they engage with the game. Races can often be approached with different vehicles, tuning philosophies, and playstyles, limited primarily by class restrictions designed to preserve competitive balance.

This structure produces a clear procedural argument. The game values experimentation, personalization, and self-directed progression. Success is rarely tied to following a prescribed path. Instead, players are encouraged to pursue the activities, vehicles, and disciplines that interest them most. Whether focusing on road racing, drifting, off-road events, time trials, photography, or collecting vehicles, the game consistently rewards player choice.

The social systems reinforce this philosophy. Convoys make it easy to play with friends, while limited-time events and seasonal content create communal objectives without forcing participation. The result is a game that treats players as participants rather than passengers. Agency remains central throughout the experience, creating one of the most player-driven progression structures currently available in the racing genre.

The Forza Horizon 6 Experience - 19

At the end of the day, Forza Horizon 6 succeeds because it understands exactly what its audience wants. More races, more cars, more customization, more brands, and more opportunities to share those experiences with friends. The game embraces this philosophy wholeheartedly and delivers one of the most content-rich entries the series has seen.

Playing with friends remains where the experience truly shines. Convoys, casual races, exploration, car meets, and spontaneous competitions create memorable moments that emerge naturally from the game's systems. The long-awaited introduction of touge racing was particularly enjoyable and quickly became one of my favorite additions. Chasing friends through winding mountain roads while pushing cars to their limits created some of the most exciting moments I had during my time with the game.

Forza Horizon 6 may not reinvent the formula, but it doesn't need to. It refines an already excellent foundation, expands player freedom, and provides enough content to keep racing fans occupied for hundreds of hours. The result is a confident and highly enjoyable racing game that comfortably earns its place among the strongest entries in the franchise.
